Boston Marathon 2008 | Funny Training Video
Today is Boston Marathon 2008 day.
The 112th running of the Boston Marathon running race is today, April 21, 2008. The city of Boston, Massachusetts sponsors this race every year on the third Monday of April, which is also the Patriots’ Day holiday. Participants, both male and female, come from all over the world and range in experience from rank beginners to seasoned professional runners. The start time is around 12 noon EDT.
The length of the course is 26.22 miles, with the marathon route stretching from Hopkinton to the center of Boston. This course is considered one of the most difficult in the world, primarily because of the hills in Newton, Mass. The final one of these hills is known as Heartbreak Hill, which occurs in mile 20 and challenges the runners with a 1/2-mile climb.
You can get a complete Boston Marathon course map here.
Bottom line if you want to compete: First you must qualify. And before that, you need to get into shape with the proper training well in advance of race day.
It’s grueling work, but it can be rewarding. Check out this funny video clip of two guys doing their own unique brand of training for the marathon. It’s pretty funny, but I don’t think we’ll see them on the leader board today (which you can see in real time here).
Okay - enough of the funny stuff! This race and course is serious business. Have a great Patriots’ Day and enjoy the Boston Marathon 2008 edition.
