Old Atari Video Games | Play Atari Games For That Comforting Nostalgic Feeling Especially at Christmas

Man oh man, when I think back to playing those old Atari video games when I was a kid, I get that warm nostalgic feeling of days gone by. It really hits home around this time of year, Christmas time, since my older brother and I always looked forward to getting one or two Atari video game cartridges from Santa. Of course, the big wait was in getting the actual system to begin with, and that sure was an exciting Christmas! But once that was in place, wishing for and getting the old Atari games themselves gave a warm holiday feeling that to this day gives me a comforting feeling as I look back on those fond memories. To help rekindle that feeling, as an adult now with kids of my own, I’m very much into getting many of the things I wanted as a kid, whether or not I actually had them, including old Atari video games. I don’t even need to have the 2600 console to play all the famous titles, those classic Atari games like Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Centipede, Pitfall, Asteroids, Missile Command, and of course, that old classic that started it all, Pong. Instead, I’m able to find most of these old Atari games in free online flash versions that I can play anytime I want. Vintage titles are hot right now, so these types of websites are popping up all over the place.

Experience a little of that Atari nostalgia here and now by watching this short funny Atari video. It’s actually a commercial but it’s so innocent and funny at the same time; imagine, the dudes in this clip had no idea what gaming would become in twenty or thirty plus years or so, huh?

Adding to the free gaming websites where you can play Atari games online, there are also sites that offer old Atari games for download that I can play on my computer (provided that I have the right emulator installed). So, unlike when I was a kid, I now have Atari computer games - amazing! In addition, most of the old Atari video games that I want to play are completely free, so I’m not spending anything to satisfy my inner child as I go through all of this. Free Atari games way back when during the days when I was a kid were unheard of. It’s different of course because back then you would play Atari games with the joystick. But now I can play Atari games in several different ways and formats.

I do have to admit, however, that I’ve been looking into the possibility of buying the 2600 or 5200 console in the near future. Then I’d be able to buy old Atari game cartridges and play them on my television set, with a joystick and all. I’ve been looking at these items at different online stores, and am surprised at how many are available. For some reason, I thought they’d be harder to find, but I’ve had no trouble at all.

Moreover, these systems aren’t as expensive as I expected. Depending on various factors, I’ve seen 2600 consoles priced at anywhere from $50-$200. Then, I can buy old Atari game cartridges for about $5 at these same places or on auction sites, and have the gaming experiences I never got to have as a kid. These days, I’m as much of an Xbox 360 enthusiast as the next person, and I love all the awesome graphics and great features that modern gaming systems offer, including Playstation and Nintendo Wii. But I find it incredibly fun and satisfying to take that trip back into time, back to when things were simpler and time seemed to go by a slower, more lazy pace., to every now and then relax with a few old Atari video games and get swept into a different bygone era.

Found an interesting search engine for kids. Might help if you look for toys, games, cheats, tips, news or even auctions for favourite toys like Webkinz, ToyRUs, Brio, Fisher-Price and so on……
