Here’s a homemade Rube Goldberg machine example.

A Rube Goldberg machine is a device that’s so over engineered in its design to achieve a specific task that it can only be described as silly, ridiculous, and absurd. Simplicity is thrown to the wind to create something convoluted and complicated. Yet these machines are actually marvels of imagination that if done well can boggle the mind.

Here’s an amazing example of a Rube Goldberg machine set up in what appears to be someone’s bedroom. It’s a homemade job to be sure. Note the “domino effect” of cascading actions: One thing occurs that triggers the next thing (or things, in the case of multiple actions occurring simultaneously) that triggers the next thing and so on to the end.
