Kathy Lee Gifford is Back, In a Big Way

Oh, boy… here we go again. For better or worse, Kathy Lee Gifford will be gracing the television airwaves and cable pipes again, this time as co-host NBC’s morning circus, The TODAY Show. Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira teased all throughout the first half hour of today’s show that there would be a major announcement about the show. Classic build up of suspense for 30 minutes. Then the news (if you can call it that) came in the 2nd half hour…

That’s it? That was the news, the big announcement? That Kathy Lee Gifford is joining the TODAY show? What a letdown… Woooo hoooo, Kathy Lee Gifford is back on TV for the first time since leaving her post on Live With Regis and Kathy Lee in 2000 (now of course, Regis Philbin’s show is Live With Regis and Kelly, starring the perky Kelly Ripa).

Kathy Lee joked that she’s returning to TV eight years older and 10 pounds heavier just as HD (high definition) television is gaining ground. Great, now we get to see in excruciating detail all of Kathy Lee Gifford’s lovely wrinkles and fat jiggles. Lovely.

And what about Kathy Lee’s singing? Here’s a video clip when she was on David Letterman’s show some time ago. He brings out an old clip of her from the 70’s when she sang song clips on the Name That Tune TV game show. Good Lord…. Will she be doing any singing on the TODAY show?

Love her or despise her, better get used to her if you’re a TV junkie. Kathy Lee Gifford is back in a major way.
